The Appila Kid
About
Lover of Australian music, especially Things of Stone and Wood, Junior, David Bridie, Icehouse, Goose, Crowded House, and so many more. Have albums in my collection purely because of hearing them on DIG - Dirty Lucy, Crooked Still, Wilson Pickers, Teddy Thompson, and more.

Think you have the wrong song title for 'Walls', DIG - you've got it listed as 'Strangeness of Kindness'. Great song though!!!
Ah, DIG, another reason to go on loving you. Thanks for inviting Justin Hayward - the incomparably magnificent Justin Hayward - into your studios for this. It was a dream come true to see Justin and the Moodies live on stage here in Adelaide a couple of months ago - it's great to hear him on DIG's airwaves. How about adding 'Question', 'The Voice' and a couple of others to your regular playlists? (You could do a lot worse than add a couple of songs from the Blue Jays album too). But thanks for playing this - great to hear the great man. Good enough to name a mid north South Australian golf course after - true story!......
Ah Slideshow - what a great song
very welcome addition to the DIG playlist - more please! (Question would be great!)
magnificent song
Thanks for playing 'Little Man...', DIG. James was far and away my favourite interview subject from my community radio days - fantastic bloke to talk to.
well, good on them for having a go. The top 10 is certainly interesting at the very least - did the Avalanches really create one of the best ten albums to ever come out of this country? Were Gossip and Woodface really the best records from PK&tCG's and Crowded House? Regurgitator at 27? Glad to see Cannot Buy My Soul get a guernsey at 38 - well deserved, arguably not high enough. The Cruel Sea way down at 63? As I said, good on 'em for having a shot. I can't believe there isn't a place for Things of Stone and Wood's debut, but there you go. And quite how Woodface is rated higher than Together Alone is, frankly, impossible to understand.
Well deserved, the Church - great recognition for such a great band. And great to see Tim Powles up on stage getting the award - he was the drummer in the band who were responsible for the first album I bought with my own money!
Thanks for playing this, DIG - but gee whiz, it'd be great if you could play some of the Moodies' stuff from their Classic 7 albums once Justin Hayward joined the band - Question is so deserving of DIG airplay still!
So, what are the chances of DIG playing something from The Last Wave of Summer? Please? I'd love to hear how it measures against their older stuff.
Spot on, Suzanne. 'I Call Your Name' is a great, magnificently written and performed song - it deserved more recognition down under than it got. Come on DIG, chuck 'em on your playlist!
Would love to hear more from Mossy's Matchbook album on DIG. 'Such A Beautiful Thing' and 'Tangletown' are Australian classics, as was the title track.
DIG - please, I love you dearly, but please - it's 'Should HAVE Known', not 'Should Of Known'. Tsk tak tsk. (Sorry, it's just one of my pet hates)!!!
Even though this doesn't stray that far from the original, this is by far and away my favourite recording on the Finn Brothers tribute album. Brooke makes it sound like it was written for her.
What a magnificent song!!!!!
Don't know if this will bring on posts of derision in my direction, but partly for personal reasons I just cannot sing 'One Perfect Day' by the Little Heroes without being reduced to tears. 'Reno' by James Reyne, and 'In Our Home' by Things of Stone and Wood also have had that impact on me over the years. There are others, but they're not coming to mind just yet.
Yay for the Thingies - good on ya DIG for playing them still. You've provided a great reward today by playing them just as I was finishing my final uni assignment for the year!
horrible version of a great song (Four Seasons in one Day)
thanks for playing this from the Malcolm soundtrack - great to hear it again!
Great song (Can't Steal My Love) which inspired me to buy the album. Sadly, most of the rest of the album (IMHO) is rubbish.
Not the best song from the lesser of their two albums, but Cousteau should have got more success than they achieved. More please, DIG!!!
They're still the best. Thanks for playing them, DIG I'm still hoping you'll delve further into their back catalogue. The Yearning and Junk Theatre are albums that should not be forgotten.
