Hey Tas P...ta for the comment...rest assured you're not alone in your guitar envy...there have been a few lovely instruments unleashed at The Desk...Take a look at the Gary Clarke Jr set...and the Eilen Jewell vids!
Would you believe it's called 'Theme From The Persuaders'? It's by John Barry and was initially released as a single with 'Girl With The Sun In Her Hair' on the B Side...which was used in a shampoo commercial.
I think on the last tour those pricier tix also got you into after-show club performances where he played until 4am...presumably for those for whom too much Prince is never enough...
Hi Pipec...Lisa chose these tracks and spoke about why she likes them...unfortunately copyright restrictions mean that we can only stream the audio for one week...have you seen Lisa's performance at The Untidy Desk?:
They should perhaps have qualified the scope of the list a bit more...leaving out some of the Jazz and Classical greats hardly makes it a definitive list!
It's actually 'Most Overrated'... I don't think anyone could honestly say he was the worst...there's too many other contenders! 'Overrated' is hard to quantify, but it seems - like you say - that all that it takes is for a good writer to have a lapse or two, and bingo!...they're on the list.
Hi Rob...ta for the comments...there were certainly some very worthy contenders for the top spot in that list, so picking a track that was never meant to be taken at face value seems like a waste!
Ta for the comments - it's always surprising to hear what folks pick as their favourites...it's also a nice surprise to discover that people whose music you enjoy are also genuinely nice folks too.
Coming soon to the Untidy Desk...Dan Sultan & Alexander Gow; Josh Pyke; Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan and Gomez....any thoughts as to who else we should ask?
Hi Melbourne Dreaming, we're not sure which promo you're referring to, possibly it could be the promo for our latest Untidy Desk concert by Jinja Safari. We used their song 'Peter Pan' for the promo: http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/untidy-desk-jinja-safari
If not, let us know what the promo says and we'll investigate further. Thanks for listening!
Well I was kinda surprised that Jimi wasn't in there...maybe he just wanted to concentrate on his British influences because that's where he hit big first and not in his native US...?
Ah...well spotted Jamil...we're all feeling our age this morning...it is Monday after all...and as for Wikipedia calling them 60s Prog-Rockers...well...never mind.
I still reckon it'd be a bit weird hearing other folks covering the songs....has anyone heard John's last and latest album Heaven and Earth yet? Some lovely moments on that record, but sad too...
Are you following @abcdigmusic or @abcdigmusicnow on Twitter? The @abcdigmusicnow is a BETA service specifically offering our 'Now Playing' info. The @abcdigmusic account will keep you up to date with some of our music news, special features and competition details - but won't fill up your inbox as quickly!
We've tested the Chaka Khan video and it doesn't seem to be working for us either. Non-ABC video clips are sourced from Youtube, so there may be some issues with it that are out of our hands. Our tech bods will look into removing it from our site.
Apologies for the playlist info problems...the systems that export the info had been playing up and it took a while to locate what was happening so we could fix it. Fingers crossed it won''t happen again!
Well done, jforge...wondered who'd be first to spot the deliberate Dig Music Mistake of the Week...fancy those naughty record companies trying to pull the wool over our eyes...shame on 'em.
Seriously, though...thanks for pointing that out...please keep your peepers peeled for any more howlers.
To all those folks who'd like to use the tracks at their weddings...just wanted to let you know that we've passed on your requests to the band's management...we'll keep you posted (and our fingers crossed).
I wish we could help with the wedding request, but under the terms of our agreement with the band, we can't offer the recording as a download...but hey, you could always ask the band for permission:
Thanks Rose...in our humble defence, I think the Music News has always cast a wider net when it comes to gathering stories. If we limited our coverage solely to the doings of the folks whose music we played, there'd be a fair few fallow periods with nothing much to read about...
Hi Alise...thanks for your comment...the band certainly seem to have a few fans over here, but unfortunately we're not able - for good ol' technical reasons - to organise a petition. However, there's a poll page on the topic here:
Hi David...ta for the comment...and let's not forget the likes of Angie Hart, Missy Higgins, Holly Throsby et al, proud purveyors of the Aussie twang...!
Ern...sadly we'll never know what that project would've sounded like, but apparently there IS an unfinished album, provisionally titled 'Willing To Work', currently being tweaked by two of John's producer mates Gary Pollitt and Jim Tullio.
Bert...you pose an interesting question...are there any more suggestions for the title?
My sources tell me that the album was mooted while John was still alive, and that many of the chosen artists had his stamp of approval, so let's hope it's a fitting farewell.
Ah yes, the News of the World does have its moments, but then commercial TV sometimes does too, especially when there are record company tie-ins involved. Maybe we should probably reserve judgement and see what happens next...?
Thanks BG...we stand corrected...I guess it was fair to assume that the show's EP knew what he was talking about!
As to whether or not the band SHOULD have refused is a different matter ;)
Hi Debbie...with me it was t'other way round...I saw The Frames in Sydney a few years back and they were SO good live...go and see them if you get the chance!
Thanks for your comments, but please make sure you fill in the actual Survey so we can include your feedback in the results. Click on the big link above (where it says CLICK HERE) to start the Survey.

Jeff was (clearly) a bit cagey after he'd confessed to the plans, but even though he tried to back-track a bit, it was pretty obvious that it'd be happening...hopefully any live thing won't just be a US/UK only thing like his gigs with Eric Clapton!
You can hear ABC Beatles on digital radio - you may need to re-scan your stations but it will appear as a special one-off station called 'ABC Beatles'. You can also listen online via the links on this page. It won't be on digital TV. Thanks for your comment and sorry about the wrong image+video displaying. I've removed them now. The artist pages are automatically generated and sometimes it gets it wrong...
trevorc, Chris, Rod - as mentioned, ABC Woodstock is a standalone digital radio station established for this special event. It's a separate station to Dig Music, that's why you won't hear it via your set-top box. You can tune in on digital radio, and we're offering a link to an audio stream on this page.
Daniel G - the current bitrate is as good as it gets for this particular event, but we expect it will be higher for any future broadcasts.
Hi Ron. You'll be able to hear ABC Woodstock in 2 places - on digital radio and on a dedicated stream via this specific web page. Dig Music will continue to be heard on digital radio, digital TV and online as usual.
Comments
Hi Douglas...the tracks in question were:
She & Him: “I Could Have Been Your Girl”/”Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” (from the album, ‘Volume 3’)
Cheers!
Hi...still waiting to get our hands on a copy!
Hi Terry...ta for the mail.
It seems Bob touched a bit of a nerve with his choices there :-)
Hi there! We like it too!
Jim James' new album is out now, though keep listening to ABC Dig Music and you're bound to hear it again!
Hey Tas P...ta for the comment...rest assured you're not alone in your guitar envy...there have been a few lovely instruments unleashed at The Desk...Take a look at the Gary Clarke Jr set...and the Eilen Jewell vids!
Insects, SonicBlue?
Why, they were lovely chaps...and great musicians too!
Hi Terry
I'm getting a hint that you're not a big fan ... is there anyone you'd like to see play at The Desk?
Suggestions always welcome...!
Cheers
Hi TAK
We publish the JR playlists every week...see:
http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/just-released
Hi Paul! Have a look at the page for this program here: http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/5-songs-rob-hirst
It's got the playlist on there and the times 5 Songs will play again throughout the week. Thanks!
Who Knew? Iconic Baba O'Riley synth was actually a home organ! Townshend confesses:
http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/guitar/lowrey.html
Indeed, micvan...although I'm sure the good people of Richmond would love to have their lives enriched by Marcus and Co...!
JB...ta for the message...so would we!
Would you believe it's called 'Theme From The Persuaders'? It's by John Barry and was initially released as a single with 'Girl With The Sun In Her Hair' on the B Side...which was used in a shampoo commercial.
Hi Jen...sadly we don't have permish to make this available as a download...wish we could, as lots of folks seem to want it.
It's those darned dark mornings in old London town...
I think on the last tour those pricier tix also got you into after-show club performances where he played until 4am...presumably for those for whom too much Prince is never enough...
5000Foxes...as it happens, he's recorded an Untidy Desk session for us...so keep your eyes and ears peeled!
5000Foxes...what are you studying at Uni? Dentistry? :)
You're right, Appila Kid. All fixed. Thanks!
Hi Pipec...Lisa chose these tracks and spoke about why she likes them...unfortunately copyright restrictions mean that we can only stream the audio for one week...have you seen Lisa's performance at The Untidy Desk?:
http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/untidy-desk-lisa-hannigan
They should perhaps have qualified the scope of the list a bit more...leaving out some of the Jazz and Classical greats hardly makes it a definitive list!
Indeed...seriously big shoes for someone to have to try to fill...!
Hope you'll stay with us, Gabrielle!
Hi ...have you checked out our video chat with Jeff? ...very illuminating:
http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/jeff-beck
Hi Andy...ta for the comments.
It's actually 'Most Overrated'... I don't think anyone could honestly say he was the worst...there's too many other contenders! 'Overrated' is hard to quantify, but it seems - like you say - that all that it takes is for a good writer to have a lapse or two, and bingo!...they're on the list.
All the information about the shows and tickets can be found at the ABC Events page: http://www.abc.net.au/commercial/events/
Apparently their latest 'leaked' music contains vocals by a mystery Irishman...Bono? Daniel O'Donnell?
Hi Rob...ta for the comments...there were certainly some very worthy contenders for the top spot in that list, so picking a track that was never meant to be taken at face value seems like a waste!
Hi Jennifer...yes, it Is a bit pot-kettle, isn't it?
Such is the power of The Desk!
Thanks Jarrod...you beat us to it!
Sultan - glad you've noticed our extra background mess efforts - it wasn't easy, but it's clearly paying off...
Hi Shell...ta for the comments. All Dan fans should have a squizz at his Untidy Desk performance with Alexander Gow:
http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/untidy-desk-dan-sultan-and-alexander-gow
Just to set the record straight...it's spotlessly clean, just very very untidy...
Hi Greta
Ta for the comments - it's always surprising to hear what folks pick as their favourites...it's also a nice surprise to discover that people whose music you enjoy are also genuinely nice folks too.
Coming soon to the Untidy Desk...Dan Sultan & Alexander Gow; Josh Pyke; Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan and Gomez....any thoughts as to who else we should ask?
The desk is actually a set created by the ABC props department. It has its own trailer, too ;)
Isn't Eric a bit too beefy to play Michael, though...?
Any other thoughts folks?
Hi Melbourne Dreaming, we're not sure which promo you're referring to, possibly it could be the promo for our latest Untidy Desk concert by Jinja Safari. We used their song 'Peter Pan' for the promo: http://abcdigmusic.net.au/features/untidy-desk-jinja-safari
If not, let us know what the promo says and we'll investigate further. Thanks for listening!
Thanks Adam...any other nominations folks?
Just had a look at the YouTube looping demo...great stuff!
Hi Adam..hey, we didn't compile the list...!
But seriously...what would've been your choice as the #1?
Well I was kinda surprised that Jimi wasn't in there...maybe he just wanted to concentrate on his British influences because that's where he hit big first and not in his native US...?
Hi Jamil...we've even given Wikipedia a nudge...all fixed now...thanks again for spotting it!
Ah...well spotted Jamil...we're all feeling our age this morning...it is Monday after all...and as for Wikipedia calling them 60s Prog-Rockers...well...never mind.
Ta for the messages though!
I still reckon it'd be a bit weird hearing other folks covering the songs....has anyone heard John's last and latest album Heaven and Earth yet? Some lovely moments on that record, but sad too...

Hi Dylan...ta for the message.
Apologies for the playlist info problems...the systems that export the info had been playing up and it took a while to locate what was happening so we could fix it. Fingers crossed it won''t happen again!

Saturday @ 3pm
Sunday @ 11am
Monday @ 7pm
Tuesday @ 1pm
Wednesday @ 4pm
Thursday @ 9pm
Friday @ 3am
In future we'll amend the promos to reflect the fact that you can see the program times at the website.
Thanks for the mail!
Welcome aboard, Sir!
Hi wattlesong...ta for the message. The videos are in fact up on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/EntertainmentOnABC
We're waiting on clearance to put another song, 'Reminiscing' up there too, so stay tuned...
He was a terrific live performer, wasn't he? Sadly missed.
Hi Gayle...video is now online...front page of the site...can't miss it!
Thanks everyone...it seems that there's a popular push to get the Crowdies inducted...anyone else agree?
Keep 'em coming...this is great...!
How about Africa by Toto?
"As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti" etc. etc.
GH...again, solid suggestions...more, please!
Wouldn't have thought Baba O'Riley suffered from too much airplay either...
All sound suggestions Z...keep 'em coming, folks...
Hi Wendy...it's a cover of a Kinks song...Ed and Mark's version is available on a jjj Live at the Wireless album...details here from Ed's site:
http://www.thekuepperfiles.com/totwireless.shtml
Hope that helps!
Even 'Still Crazy' had its moments...
You make a great point, Guy...I wonder how the likes of Gloria Estefan, Sarah McLachlan and Green Day would feel about this...?
Thanks Buzzard...I heard that the band liked those recordings too, which is nice to hear. just wish we'd had the chance to do a few more!
Hi Cat
Until November 6th, you can check out audio of the programme here:
http://abcdigmusic.net.au/news/5-songs-the-audreys
Ta for the message!
I wish we could help with the wedding request, but under the terms of our agreement with the band, we can't offer the recording as a download...but hey, you could always ask the band for permission:
http://www.powderfinger.com/contact
Thanks Joe...wondered who'd be first to spot that...(!)
Hi Ern...ta for the post.
Reckon you could be right about The Faces...maybe their contribution has been overshadowed a bit by Rod Stewart's subsequent solo career...?
There are some notable not-quite-so-cool Ronnies, though...Corbett, Barker and Biggs, to name but a few...
Thanks, stuartd...keep 'em coming!
Thanks Rose...in our humble defence, I think the Music News has always cast a wider net when it comes to gathering stories. If we limited our coverage solely to the doings of the folks whose music we played, there'd be a fair few fallow periods with nothing much to read about...
Hi Sassacass...is that an eyewitness report? Got any photos?
Ta for the message, Anonymous...Neil M looks a bit like Van, too...!
Hi Alise...thanks for your comment...the band certainly seem to have a few fans over here, but unfortunately we're not able - for good ol' technical reasons - to organise a petition. However, there's a poll page on the topic here:
http://thebandstand.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/poll-should-a-ha-tour-austr...
Looks like Japan is the closest the band will get before heading back home, though...
Bert...well put...I recall hearing both JM and Danny Thompson talking about their fighting days, beautifully documented here:
http://www.uncut.co.uk/blog/index.php?blog=5&p=1083&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
John eventually sought calm in Buddhism, whilst Danny converted to Islam...(!)
Hi Shane...it should indeed...can't wait to hear what Robert Smith does with 'Small Hours'!!
I hope you notice that WE weren't derogatory in any way about our Norwegian chums...
Well at least on Whole Lotta Love, Willie Dixon - who wrote You Need Love for Muddy Waters - was eventually listed in the songwriting credits...
Thanks BG...we stand corrected...I guess it was fair to assume that the show's EP knew what he was talking about!
As to whether or not the band SHOULD have refused is a different matter ;)
Quite right, anonymous...RM did most of their Art-Rockin' in the 70s - we stand corrected!
Er...yes...it's a bit scary how long a go it was...and I'm not sure what Ian would think about local schoolkids working on his music...
Glad to hear you enjoyed the gig Gerri - check out some photos of Dan and Scott here, taken by the good folk at 612 ABC Brisbane.
Hi Debbie...with me it was t'other way round...I saw The Frames in Sydney a few years back and they were SO good live...go and see them if you get the chance!
Hi Cleo, Edward and MusicAndWords,
Thanks for your comments, but please make sure you fill in the actual Survey so we can include your feedback in the results. Click on the big link above (where it says CLICK HERE) to start the Survey.
Thanks Shane...yep...wouldn't that be something???
Jeff was (clearly) a bit cagey after he'd confessed to the plans, but even though he tried to back-track a bit, it was pretty obvious that it'd be happening...hopefully any live thing won't just be a US/UK only thing like his gigs with Eric Clapton!
Hi New to Dig Radio,
You can hear ABC Beatles on digital radio - you may need to re-scan your stations but it will appear as a special one-off station called 'ABC Beatles'. You can also listen online via the links on this page. It won't be on digital TV. It's important to note that 'ABC Beatles' is seperate to Dig Music, it's whole new temporary station just for this weekend.
It's going to be a big weekend - enjoy!
Hi Liz...ta for the message...but surely JB's guitar and Rod's voice were of some significance to the sound? Those 2 and Ronnie wood were always the core members, don't you reckon?
Hi Dick...I passed on your question...and in return we got ourselves a scoop!...check out the story for more:
http://abcdigmusic.net.au/news/exclusive-beck-spills-the-beans
Hi Jase...thanks for the message...the short answer is that we have no plans to take it off the site, so enjoy!...unfortunately we don't have the rights to allow copies of either of the tracks, but we're glad you like 'em!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ern (& great to see you're writing again).
Of course, while we dig Easy Rider, the ABC would never condone illegal activity - now OR in the 60's...
Quite right, Karen...shame on us.
We were just a bit too excited, I think...we will try to bee more carefuller in fewture.
Hi tomhad,
Thanks for the query. At the moment the website only has the ability to recommend artists, 'stories', and other content, but your suggestion is on the list for consideration in future development work. You can search for the details of songs played at any time in the past using the improved 'Just Played' page.
Hi Shane...if it's any consolation. Jeff has agreed to come into our studios to perform acoustically for us and have a bit of a chat...hopefully it'll happen at the end of this month, so keep an eye out for the video.
Hi Jimmy
Thanks for the mail...it's up to the band what else happens to this material...our agreement with them only allows us to play the audio on air and to stream the video. The charity idea is a good one...unfortunately it's not something we could organise, but maybe you could ask them? :)
Hi Davo...ta for the mail...sadly the answer has to be no...under our agreement with the band, we're allowed to use the tracks on air and stream the video, but that's all.
Hi Michael,
It certainly was Renee - from her 2007 album 'Dedicated'.
(You can hunt for songs you heard via the Just Played page: http://abcdigmusic.net.au/played)
It's now our favourite too...what a wonderful image...thanks for the mail!
Hi Rose & Laura,
The closing date is definitely Friday March 5th. Entries need to be submitted before midnight, AEDT.
ABC Dig Music
Hi John/saram,
Yes, both of those songs have been successfully uploaded.
ABC Dig Music
Sorry Lucy...that's all there is!
Glad you liked it though...and they're a grand bunch of lads.
C'mon Fishbrick...name some tracks!
Well spotted! We're fixing this now...
Ta for your thoughts...there was an interview with Gabriel recently where he seemed to be keen to revisit his Genesis days - and apparently as recently as 2007, there was serious talk of the original lineup reforming to perform The Lamb Lies Down again, though how well PG (60 tomorrow!) would cut it as a Puerto Rican teen these days is open to debate...
Hi Gary,
It was good to be able to help resolve your issue. Looking forward to hearing your entry!
Hi Mark...ta for the comments...which Genesis track was it, by the way?
Yes...isn't it a corker?
Point taken...but bogus? surely not!
There are now a number of sites offering high-quality 24-bit FLAC downloads, and a lot more work is being done on the format. Although punters seem to be accepting the quality of MP3s, there are a lot of artist and producers who aren't too happy about having their work macerated in this way.
Time will tell, I guess!
Oooh - saucer of milk for Wide Open...!
Actually, seeing as how their 2001 effort was such a fizzer, they've maybe left it a bit too long to have another crack at it...30 years IS a long time between drinks...
Apparently both spellings were listed on various releases...
Thanks for the review. Good to hear you enjoyed it!
Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your comment and sorry about the wrong image+video displaying. I've removed them now. The artist pages are automatically generated and sometimes it gets it wrong...

Hi Ron. You'll be able to hear ABC Woodstock in 2 places - on digital radio and on a dedicated stream via this specific web page. Dig Music will continue to be heard on digital radio, digital TV and online as usual.
Fear not trevorc - you'll be able to hear ABC Woodstock right here via a dedicated stream, from 5pm next Friday
