You play, we pay

The Reclusive Barclay Brothers
Aug 11, 2010 Updated Aug 12, 2010

Meet the band who want to pay you to listen to them...

For a while now, artists have resorted to giving music away for nothing in exchange for fans signing up to a mailing list. Now unsigned UK electropop duo the Reclusive Barclay Brothers have taken it a step further...by paying people to listen to their music.

Of those who elect to sign up to the band's mailing list, 100 – chosen at random – will receive the pricely sum of 45 dollars.

Apparently, the duo were inspired by the 2005 payola scandal in the US, but they insist that "It's certainly not an attempt to further cheapen recorded music."

The band also inform us, via their website, that they've "irresponsibly" borrowed around 45 thousand dollars from a bank to set themselves up...including eight and a half grand for this campaign alone.
