Veteran guitarist Johnny Winter has announced an upcoming album of Blues covers.

The album, Roots - due out later this year - features Winter's take on tracks by - amongst others - Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters.

Guest stars on the album include ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Gregg Allman and Derek Trucks, and, as Winter told billboard.com, more collaborations will be added soon. Speaking of his love of Blues, Winter said "I was about 12 when I heard it on the radio and I thought, 'This is the greatest music I've ever heard'".
