Who's Superbowl hitch

Pete Townshend
Jan 5, 2010 Updated Jan 6, 2010

A child-abuse activist group is pushing for The Who to be dropped from the NFL Super Bowl, citing Pete Townshend's 2003 arrest for accessing online child pornography.

The band are scheduled to perform at the halftime show on 7 February.

"The Who are a great band. Pete Townshend is the only issue here," wrote Child Abuse Watch founder Evin Daly in an open letter to the NFL commissioner. "Inviting Townsend to play is a slap in the face to victims of child sexual abuse."

Townshend was charged by British police in 2003 with using his credit card to access a Texas-based child pornography website. He pleaded guilty, claiming he had been revisiting childhood memories of sexual assault as research for his autobiography. He received a police caution, but was cleared on charges of possession of indecent pictures, as no images had been stored on his computer.

Might as well ban any musician who's been arrested for drug posession.

Might as well ban several players as well, as quite a few have convictions for serious crimes.

Townsend was found not to be involved in child porn, so this loud mouthed yank, another one, has to have her five seconds of fame. Maggots involved in this repugnant practice should be burnt at the stake.
