Tom Jones 1970s
Mar 10, 2010 Updated Mar 11, 2010

Sir Tom Jones was once the butt of civil service sarcasm for his "non enthusiasm" for taking a job that might "dirty his fingernails".

In his early 20s, the artist then known as Thomas Woodward was claiming unemployment benefit but his choosiness clearly irritated staff at the Pontypridd employment office.

The office records, compiled between 1961 and 1964,  were found in a rubbish skip some years ago and are now to be sold at auction.

The cards list Sir Tom's previous jobs, including factory worker, glove cutter and labourer...they also refer to him being on bail for breaking and entering.

The records go under the hammer on the 15th of April.
