The 52-year-old musician's odds for taking out the gong with his album Wake Up the Nation have been slashed from 20/1 to 1/10.
It seems unlikely that inside info has a part to play, since the Mercury winner is not finalised until the night of the awards.
The prize ceremony takes place on Wednesday morning Aussie time, and we'll bring you the results as soon as they're in.
