Rumours of Aerosmith’s impending demise appear to have been somewhat exaggerated.

Vocalist Steven Tyler joined guitarist Joe Perry's band onstage in New York last night and announced to a relieved crowd that he wasn't quitting the band. The Joe Perry Project then launched into a spirited rendition of the Aerosmith classic Walk This Way, with Tyler on vocals.

The 61 year old's surprise announcement comes just days after Perry and other Aerosmith members said the band were actively seeking a new lead singer.
