Dec 23, 2009 Updated Jan 4, 2010

Aussie popster Gabriella Cilmi's hit 'Sweet About Me' was the most played song in the UK this year.

The Melbourne singer topped the list drawn up by PRS, the body that collects royalties for songwriters.

Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' came second in the list, followed by Moloko's 'The Time is Now'. Welsh chanteuse Duffy took out the number four spot with 'Mercy', whilst the newly-reformed Take That rounded out the top five with 'Shine'.

PRS based the ratings based on the number of times a song was played on radio, TV, online or in concert.
