U2's CO2 not PC
He may be a social justice and environmental crusader, but estimates on the size of the carbon footprint generated by Bono and his band U2 have raised eyebrows in some quarters.
The Irish rock band's campaign to fight AIDs and poverty in Africa include calling on the global population to take better care of the planet.
But according to carbonfootprint.com – a group which specialises in assessing environmental damage – the band's current world tour will generate the equivalent of the carbon waste produced by 6,500 average UK residents in an entire year.
Measured in space terms, this would be enough energy to fly the band to Mars and back.
U2's PR agency hasn’t yet responded to the question of whether the band would buy carbon credits to offset their huge level of emissions.
