Take On Me

a-ha
Jul 8, 2010 Updated Jul 9, 2010

As 80s Norwegian popsters A-ha prepare for their final concerts, they're also investing in a new generation of Pøp Idøls...

The trio have invested their own cash to create four awards worth 1M kroner each, allocated to Norway's east, west, north and south, respectively.

1 million Kroner is about 175 thousand dollars.

In other words, A-ha are giving each of four bands a grant worth twice that of literature's most famous award, the Man Booker prize, making theirs one of the biggest arts prizes in the world.

It's great to see a-ha reinvest back into the music industry. a-ha have produced some absolutely beautiful music over the last 25 years, which is why it would be wonderful to see them tour Australia in 2010. a-ha originally did announce that Australia would be included in their farewell tour, however no dates have been announced as yet. Although I love 'Take on me', there is so much more to a-ha than this - just take a look at YouTube!

Spot on, Suzanne. 'I Call Your Name' is a great, magnificently written and performed song - it deserved more recognition down under than it got. Come on DIG, chuck 'em on your playlist!

Awesome band, they've always had good involvement with initiatives outside the music industry (electric cars and so forth) but good to see them getting involved in their chosen field as well

It'd be spectacular if they did come and tour down under ... there's still a couple of weeks 'til Japan so perhaps they'll decide a couple of 'surprise' concerts for us :) I know a heap of people who'd be way excited if they did.

C'mon Australian fans, add your comments....we want a-ha to know that they do still have fans here...and plenty......and we want them to cross the seas to visit us too. For those that don't know, a-ha have just released their final single 'Butterfly, Butterfly (the last hurrah)' - Listen here http://www.warnerwall.no/h%C3%B8r-den-nye-singelen-til-a-ha/ ....it is beautiful....we need to hear their melancholy sounds on Australian airwaves again!!!!!!

Too good a band to receive the abuse they do from media outlets in this country such as Spicks & Specks... Truly an innovative band; there isn't anyone quite like them. Australia shouldn't miss out on the chance to host one of a-ha's breathtaking live shows. Add another local fan to the list!

I hope you notice that WE weren't derogatory in any way about our Norwegian chums...

Yes, truly a creative band of artists that have produced some of the most sublime and influential music in the last 25 years. I really hope that they somehow can come down here and play a few shows before they call it quits. How can we get them here? Petition? a-ha come to Australia please!!!! Suggested listening- 'Memorial Beach', 'Foot of the Mountain'.- just for starters.

Hi all at Dig Music. Can you help all the a-ha fans in Australia to convince a-ha to tour here - even one date? Is it possible to put up a petition on your site?

On Aug 4, 2010. 1:23pm

Hi Alise...thanks for your comment...the band certainly seem to have a few fans over here, but unfortunately we're not able - for good ol' technical reasons - to organise a petition. However, there's a poll page on the topic here:

http://thebandstand.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/poll-should-a-ha-tour-austr...

Looks like Japan is the closest the band will get before heading back home, though...

It would be absolutely amazing to see a-ha in concert and experience such beautiful music live.
Unfortunately I won't have the opportunity to travel to attend any of a-ha's final concerts.
I did think though that it would be wonderful if they could broadcast their final concert live - particularly in Australia who had remained ever so hopeful of a-ha making it here.
Perhaps a venue in one of our major cities would consider broadcasting it on a large screen and entry fees to the venue could be donated to Mercy Ships.
What do Australians think of this idea?

I think that's a good idea, Suzanne - it's all a-ha could do for their Australian fans, who remained hopeful, like you say. Could an online petition be organised and then advertised on http://www.a-ha-live.com/ ? Then possibly a-ha may also find out about the interest for this event to happen.

There is a petition that you can sign for the final concert to be streamed live at http://www.petitions24.com/a-halivestream Then Aussie fans could arrange a gathering somewhere to watch it.

Hi Alise,

Sorry for not replying earlier - it's been one of "those" weeks!
I've added my name to the petition and also added a comment.
I think it's a great idea to add a comment on www.a-ha-live.com and also on www.a-ha.com

There's only two other things I can think of doing that might help.
I've managed to google the contact details for a-ha's booking agent Neil Warnock. His email address is: NeilWarnock@theagencygroup.com

I also came across an Australian website called Friends of Norway
http://friendsofnorway.asn.au/
I've left them a message on their website also.

Would be so lovely to watch the final a-ha concert live - even if we can't be in Oslo.

Hi Suzanne,

I think Aussie fans just have to wait and see if the current petition to stream a-ha's last concert live will actually happen...and then organise a venue to watch it. It may only be possible to organise a private event and then let Aussie fans know via www.a-ha-live.com or/and www.a-ha.com. I will actually be travelling to Oslo - but I wanted so much for them to come to Australia too, which would be a totally different experience. I also would have loved to see a-ha live with my Aussie friend, who can't go to Oslo.

Unfortunately, because I'll be away, I can't be part of anything being organised here but I'll help if I can. Maybe we could organise a get together to watch it later, seeing that it will be released on DVD.
