The artist formerly known as Gordon Sumner has called the UK talent show X Factor "televised karaoke" and said judges like Simon Cowell have "no recognisable talent apart from self-promotion".
The singer, 58, told London's Evening Standard that the how "has nothing to do with music".

I agree that x factor and shows like it have little to do with true music or artistry. It's like trying to create something beautiful with a gun to your head. I don't judge those who watch the shows, for some light entertainment they are fine for passing some mind-numbing time! But not for the serious musician!
