Songs of significance
Steely Dan’s Aja, Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica (pictured), and the 1968 Tammy Wynette classic 'Stand By Your Man' are among the 25 recorded works selected for inclusion in the US National Recording Registry at Washington's Library of Congress.
Other notable new entries include Al Green’s 'Let’s Stay Together', Henry Mancini’s 'Theme from Peter Gunn' and the 1927 Blind Willie Johnson song, 'Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground'.
Each of the selections will be carefully preserved in digitized form in the recording registry which was set up in 2000 in order to preserve what it considers to be important audio recordings. To qualify for inclusion, recordings must be at least 10 years old and be “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”
