Sing-A-Long

Josh Pyke
Jul 28, 2010 Updated Jul 29, 2010

Lisa Mitchell and Josh Pyke are among a group of Aussie tunesmiths looking to set a world record for the longest ever song.

The landmark project began as part of the Song Summit songwriting conference, which took place in Sydney last month.

Writers from all walks of life were asked to contribute a rhyming couplet to the song.

The first two lines were provided by former Midnight Oil singer and government minister Peter Garrett, who offered up the lines: "There's a song in my heart, there's a story to sing."

Contributions from the likes of Bob Evans, Lior, Mitchell and Pyke followed, before unsigned songwriters were invited to participate via the Song Summit website.

The project attracted 168 co-writers in total.

Producers are now putting the words to music and plan to release the song as a single. All royalties earned by the song will be donated to the charity Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
