Sarah Blasko to perform modern arias

Sarah Blasko
Jul 27, 2009 Updated Jul 28, 2009

Sarah Blasko heads to Cooktown for an unusual performance at the Queensland Music Festival.

Sarah will  be performing modern interpretations of European arias atop a ship-like stage, as part of a newly commissioned work, Laid In Earth.

The piece – which explores the early cultural exchanges between Europeans and Indigenous Australians - has been arranged by contemporary classical composer Damian Barbeler and is a translation of various iconic arias into English laid over an abstract musical background.

Taking the stage with Blasko will be Emma-Louise, Daniel Rojas and Kurrawong, along with community singers from Hope Vale, Rossville and Cooktown.

Laid In Earth is on at Endeavour Park in Cooktown, on Saturday August 1.
