Sales up after pirate sinking
Record labels worldwide are pointing to the dramatic rise in music sales in Sweden - just months after the country introduced anti-piracy laws - as evidence of what a similar crackdown could do to their own flagging markets.
Figures show Swedish revenues rose 18% in the first nine months of this year, a significant reversal after seven consecutive years of decline. Much of the rise came after April's implementation of an anti-piracy law and a ruling against the operators of popular filesharing site The Pirate Bay.
Meanwhile, in the UK, a proposed digital economy bill includes controversial plans to cancel the broadband connections of persistant piratical offenders.

I have a friend who honestly thinks that if someone has realeased an album, they must be loaded so it's ok to burn their music illegally. It amazes me how many people have no conscience when it comes to owning pirated music or DVD's. Would they walk into the Louvre and take the Mona Lisa off the wall so casually?
