Ringo's place pardoned
Number 9 Madryn Street in Liverpool was earmarked for demolition but will now be refurbished and put on the market. UK housing minister Grant Shapps said "a tide of community support" had saved the house, which he described as a "beacon of Beatlemania".
The house is one of 16 on the street to be spared, although 400 other homes in the area will be pulled down.
Sources differ on how long Ringo resided at number 9 before moving to nearby Admiral Grove, where he was living shortly before the Beatles formed.
