Powderfinger staying quit

Powderfinger's final bow
Jan 18, 2011 Updated Jan 21, 2011

Recently retired Brisbane rockers Powderfinger have elected not to perform for flood relief, but they're still willing to help...

In a statement on their official website, Powderfinger wrote "There have been some suggestions in the press for us to reform and play a charity concert, and while flattering, we would like to politely decline. We played together for the last time in November and intend to keep it that way".

On January 6th, Queensland MP Rob Messenger put the squeeze on the band, saying "Powderfinger is Queensland music. Queensland needs them right now." However, the band remained immune to his efforts, instead choosing to release a hitherto unheard track, with all profits going to aid those families affected by the disaster.

I have to say it's very sad indeed after all Queensland did for them. I've been a fan since 1989 but not so sure now. Appears they got their money and now they are running out on those that count.

Such harsh words from a so-called fan! Powderfinger have played their final shows...show some respect for their decision and get over it! They are contributing to the relief effort in another way but perhaps you missed that?

Give me a break. How long are they supposed to be 'indebted' to queensland for, 1yr - 10yr they did not sign any contract with their fans saying that if a natural disaster happens in qld we will get back together. Any single person or group of people who try to raise money for the disaster ' in whatever way they see fit' is doing their part to help the recovery of these communities.

If they played for one people others would ask them to play and then everyone would think they've come out of "retirement" so it's good that they said no in the first place

Rob Messenger has participated in the activity of cheap political point scoring; some others have jumped on the bandwagon and unjustifiably demanded free service from professionals; remember, Powderfinger was a band of human beings, not a commodity owned by Queenslland.
