Powderfinger 3
Apr 9, 2010 Updated Apr 12, 2010

After more than 20 years together, Brisbane's much-loved Powderfinger are calling it a day.

At a press conference at Sydney's Annandale Hotel this morning, frontman Bernard Fanning announced the split along with details of the band's largest ever national farewell tour.

In a prepared statement he said:

"We have decided, after much deliberation and agonising, that after this final tour we will call it a day as a recording and touring band.  With the completion of our last album, Golden Rule, we feel that we have said all that we want to say as a musical group."

"We firmly believe that it is our most complete and satisfying album and can't think of a better way to farewell our fans than with music that we all believe in and also with, hopefully, our best tour to date."

Powderfinger will play shows in 21 different cities in around the country, covering every state and territory, during September and October.

They will be supported by long-time mates Jet, together with The Vines.
