Pavement beat a path to Oz
The band will play their first reunion show in Auckland on March 1 next year before heading to Oz for a run of six shows.
Drummer Bob Nastanovich stated that the shows would be purely nostalgic affairs, with no new material being performed; he also said he was "Pretty sure" that the tour was a one-off, with no further plans made as yet as to the band's future.
Pavement formed in Stockton, California in 1989 as a studio project of guitarists and vocalists Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kannberg. Despite unspectacular record sales, the band achieved cult status before splitting after their final show at Brixton Academy in London on November 20, 1999. During that performance, vocalist Malkmus had a pair of handcuffs attatched to his microphone stand, telling the audience "These symbolize what it's like being in a band all these years."
