Patti Smith, Calexico Pay Tribute To REM
REM's 30-year career is to be honoured at a tribute concert in New York City, set to star Patti Smith, Calexico and The Frames/Swell Season's Glenn Hansard.
Proceeds from the concert will go to three non-profits organisations dedicated to providing music education for youth.
The event is the fifth in a series of charity events that have previously honoured Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John.
Calexico will act as 'house band' for the evening. Other perfomers on the 20-act bill include former Husker Du frontman Bob Mould, and Throwing Muses.
Artist Biography
Throwing Muses are an alternative rock band formed in 1981 in Newport, Rhode Island, that toured and recorded extensively until 1997, when its members began concentrating more on other projects. The group was originally fronted by two lead singers, Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly, who both wrote the group's songs.
