Sydney's ailing live music scene is about to be boosted - by a transplant from Melbourne.

The folks behind iconic Melbourne venues The Corner Hotel and Northcote Social Club have announced plans to open an offshoot in Sydney's Newtown, featuring a self-contained band room.

Finer points such as location and an opening date have yet to be determined.
