Cave has conceded that given the tough economic times, which have hit the town particularly hard, the project would prove a little too ostentatious, even for him.
"Unfortunately the fortunes of Warracknabeal are so grim at the moment, with the recession and this chronic drought that's going on, that it feels a little in bad taste to erect a giant gold statue.” Cave said. “But one day..."
The singer says he already has a foot-high scale model of the statue, which depicts him semi-naked on a rearing horse. “I have a modest loincloth on. It's this rather wonderful homoerotic work of art,” he explained.
Warracknabeal will just have to wait...in the meantime, enjoy the - mercifully clothed - artist's impression above.
