Mr Townshend regrets...
The guitarist, whose live career hangs in the balance due to worsening hearing problems, was interviewed for a new one-off magazine The Who: The Ultimate Music Guide, where he - somewhat ironically - opines that he'd have been better off as a solo performer.
"I would never have joined a band," he said. "I would have made a much more effective solo performer and producer working the way Brian Eno has worked. I would be less physically damaged today".

He's right. His solo albums are brilliant but neglected. All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes.
I used "Empty Glass" as reference for rough tuning of concert p.a.'s for years. Great music.
