Martyn's final opus
At the time of his death in January 2009, Martyn had been recording with producer and long-time friend Jim Tullio, who drafted in co-producer Gary Pollitt to put together Martyn's final album from an assortment of vocal and guitar takes.
"John was a genius," Tullio said. "He made music more naturally than anyone I've ever met, as effortlessly as the way you and I speak."
The album, Heaven and Earth, will be released on May 3.

Over a 40 year career he released 20 studio albums, working with artists such as Eric Clapton and David Gilmour. I was lucky enough to see John Martyn twice in the early '80's in Perth. Both shows were outstanding.
He was a terrific live performer, wasn't he? Sadly missed.
No Way! Didn't realize he'd died! I saw him in Lisdoonvarna Co Clare Ireland in a small pub in '99, one of the best shows I've been to!
Has anyone listened to the newly released album?? It's magnificent!
