This should be a ripper!!!
Hi Shane...it should indeed...can't wait to hear what Robert Smith does with 'Small Hours'!!
Just great that that JM is experiencing a minor revival (unfortunately) after his death. Those who saw him at Dallas Brooks Hall in Mel-boom, in the early 80's will recall a muso of rare ability, originality and humour. His music was the soundtrack for mine and many others stoners odyssey through the late 70's and early 80's. His late career did include some MoR dogs but fortunately before he died, he reemerged as a contrarian, journeyman and virtuoso.
I would enjoy hearing other reflection on JM by his Australian following.
And pose this question: was JM, in his final years, the greatest one legged musician in contemporary music?
Bert...you pose an interesting question...are there any more suggestions for the title?
My sources tell me that the album was mooted while John was still alive, and that many of the chosen artists had his stamp of approval, so let's hope it's a fitting farewell.
Fascinating too, now to gain a fuller understanding of the man. That he was an often angry-ant Scotsman who would rather have a fight than a feed sits quite incongruously with most of his body of work, with its celebratory lyrics (when not about scoring) and with the epic aural sculpturing of so much of his music.
All of which just adds to a fascinating career and life.
(WAS it it the MoR dog((s)) that ripped his leg off? Have your say!)
I heard talk of JM recording an album before his untimely demise with the one armed drummer from Def Leapard to be entitled " Leggless but 'armless." I was wondering if anyone else had any information about this project.
Bert...well put...I recall hearing both JM and Danny Thompson talking about their fighting days, beautifully documented here:

John eventually sought calm in Buddhism, whilst Danny converted to Islam...(!)
Ern...sadly we'll never know what that project would've sounded like, but apparently there IS an unfinished album, provisionally titled 'Willing To Work', currently being tweaked by two of John's producer mates Gary Pollitt and Jim Tullio.
