After berating indie darlings Pavement for ripping off his own band The Fall, Mark E Smith has set his sights on a new target.

Professional curmudgeon Smith's latest claim to infamy is throwing stuff at folk-rockers Mumford and Sons, who he's apparently none too keen on.

Speaking to Aussie street paper Brag, Smith said: "We were playing a festival in Dublin the other week. There was this other group warming up...and they were terrible...I said, 'Shut them ***** up,' and they were still warming up, so I threw a bottle at them."

Even when Smith's fellow bandmembers filled him in as to who his targets actually were, he remained unimpressed: "I just thought they were a load of retarded Irish folk singers." He said.
