Mandatory plugs?
The committee found that one-in-six Australians suffer from some form of hearing loss and that venues playing loud music contribute to this statistic considerably.
The recommendations include the use of warning signs at venues, as well as mandatory distribution of ear plugs to concert go-ers.
While this doesn’t sound very rock n’ roll, it is estimated that hearing loss in Australia contributes to more than 11 billion dollars each year in lost income and health costs.

I am very pleased to hear this news as I have a son who at the age of 19 was diagnosed with severe tinnitus and meneires disease which we are told by specalists may have happened due to him listening to very loud music through earphones over extended period of time.
He is now not able to go anywhere that is loud including parties, hotels, concerts etc as you can imagine this is very hard for a young person and restricts his social life greatly.
He now has restricted hearing and constant ringing in the ears that effects his everyday life greatly.
I do not think warning signs would do any thing to deter young people from these venues, as at that age they are invincible in their own eyes, I think that an overall restriction on the noise level is needed without impinging on every ones enjoyment.
