Melbourne indies The Drones were big winners at this year's AIR awards.

The Victorian quartet's fifth album Havilah picked up the album of the year award, and the band also took out the gong for best independent artists.

Bertie Blackman was named breakthrough artist of the year, while Sydney duo Philadelphia Grand Jury got Best Single honours for Going To The Casino, while Melbourne-based individualist C.W Stoneking scored Best Independent Blues and Roots Album for his latest effort Jungle Blues.
