Rocker Lenny Kravitz is set to play soul legend Marvin Gaye in an upcoming biopic.

The project will be directed by UK filmmaker Julien Temple, whose previous credits include docos on The Sex Pistols, Kinks frontman Ray Davies and Joe Strummer of The Clash.

Kravitz' most recent screen appearance was as the Stylist Cinna in this year's film adaptation of The Hunger Games.
