'Lennon rarity' on sale

John Lennon
Dec 7, 2009 Updated Dec 8, 2009

A recording that purports to be a rare and unreleased John Lennon session has gone on sale in the USA.

The recording, available at www.lennontapes.com was supposedly made on August 19, 1980 at the Hit Factory in New York, at a time when Lennon was in residence recording Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey.

The 13-minute session features covers of Mystery Train, Stay and Dream Lover, which were in Lennon's vocal warmups repertoire.

If the recording proves to be genuine, then presumably Yoko Ono would own the rights, so how it came to be released via a third party is still unclear, with Yoko yet to comment.

We'll keep you posted.
