Kesha, Adele, Sting cover Dylan
Chimes of Freedom features an all-star cast of musicians from a range of styles and genres taking on Dylan classics, some recorded in the past and others created especially for the compilation.
Pop performer Ke$ha provides a particularly out-of-character performance of Don't Think Twice, It's Alright which features her singing the song while weeping. "There were particular lyrics in the song that you can just tell, once they came out of my mouth, the emotion caught up with me and I just started weeping," she said. "It's something that I didn’t plan on, that wasn't contrived at all. It just sort of happened." You can hear her cover via YouTube here.
Other musicians contributing include Bettye LaVette, Pete Townshend, Elvis Costello and Neil Finn with the Pajama Club. The compilation goes on sale January 24th with all proceeds going to Amnesty International. The album is available to stream for a limited time via the Amnesty International USA Facebook page.
