Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr is set to pick up the Godlike Genius accolade at this year's NME Awards.

The magazine's editor Mike Williams said: "Never has anyone been so utterly deserving of the title", while Marr himself says he's "honoured" to be the next recipient of a gong previously won by the likes of Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher.
