It may at first seem an unlikely choice, but Jay-Z's rags to riches tale in some way mirrors that of the story's main character, who also shrugged off humble beginnings to become fabulously wealthy - albeit by nefarious means.
Jay-Z's producer The Bullits enthusiastically leaked the news via Twitter, writing "Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!"
The movie - originally due round about now - is expected to premiere in May.
