As fans prepare to mark the first anniversary of his death this Friday, the money earned by his estate from mobile phone ringtones alone in the past 12 months will be almost 6 million dollars.
The King of Pop died with debts of more than half a billion dollars, but now it seems that his estate's finances have never been in better shape.
Just how much cash is flowing is hard to measure. The New York Daily News puts the amount of cash generated at $890m, whereas Billboard magazine suggested yesterday that earnings since his death have topped the billion dollar mark.
Whatever the sum, when Forbes magazine releases its next annual list of the world's "Top Earning Dead Celebrities" this October, it seems certain that Jackson will Nudge elvis aside to take the top spot.
