Beatles fans commemorate classic cover shot.

40 years to the minute since the photo was first snapped, Beatles fans flocked to the world's most famous pedestrian crossing to celebrate the iconic Abbey Road album cover.

At 11.35 am on August 8, 1969, scottish photographer Iain MacMillan - perched on a stepladder in the middle of the road - had just ten minutes to fire off six shots whilst a policeman held the traffic at bay.

The chosen photo sparked rumours of Paul McCartney's death, the - somewhat strange - reasoning being that it shows McCartney barefoot, out of step, the car number plate behind him (LMW 28IF) referring to his age - 28 if he'd lived - and the rest of the band forming a funeral procession for him.
