I put the squeeze on you

Shane MacGowan
Jan 29, 2010 Updated Mar 20, 2010

In what must be the strangest collaborative contribution to the Haiti earthquake appeal, Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan is doing a Geldof.

Shane is assembling a gang of pals to record a cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins' 1957 classic I Put a Spell On You. Those roped in so far include Nick Cave, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and...Johnny Depp.

Although Depp might seem an unlikely collaborator for Cave and Gillespie, the actor has plenty of experience as a musician – first with his high-school band Kids and more recently with Babybird. For this reecording, Depp will reportedly be joined by his partner, the singer and actress Vanessa Paradis.

Meanwhile Hope for Haiti, a download-only album featuring songs from last Friday's international telethon, is currently No 1 in America.

Does anyone else think that Shane looks a bit like KD Lang in this photo?
