Former Smiths frontman Morrissey walks out of a gig.

The singer was hit in the eye by a plastic drinks container during the second song of the set at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday. The 50-year-old said "goodnight" to the 8,000-strong crowd and walked off, the gig being subsequently cancelled.

Arena manager Tim Banfield said one person had "ruined" the night for everyone else.

Morrissey had only recently resumed his tour after collapsing three weeks ago. Fan Iain Kavanagh said: "He's a 50-year-old man who has just been ill...he deserves better."
