50% of ABBA - Benny and Anni-Frid- attended the ceremony at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel. A fear of flying and family commitments prevented the other half of the band showing up.
Former Genesis vocalist Peter Gabriel was also missing from the ceremony. "We've played without him for 30 years," Said Phil Collins backstage. "We're used to not having him around."
Iggy Pop delivered middle-finger salutes to his audience and managed to get his shirt off at the black tie event before performing several of his hits.
"Roll over, Woodstock," Iggy said. "We won!"
