Dr Lennon, I presume?

Christopher Eccleston
Dec 1, 2009 Updated Dec 2, 2009

Former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston is to play John Lennon in a new BBC drama.

The one-off telemovie, Lennon Naked, covers the late Beatle's life from 1967 to 1971, including the death of Beatles manager Brian Epstein, the breakup of Lennon's marriage to Cynthia and his meeting with Yoko Ono.

Filming is currently underway in London, with the film set to air on British TV next July.

Quite what Lennon - a staunch advocate of Liverpool’s superiority over neighbouring Manchester – would make of his being played by uber-Mancunian Eccleston is anyone’s guess.
