Doug Fieger, lead singer of the Knack, who co-wrote the 1979 power pop classic 'My Sharona', has died aged 57.

The song has been a perennial presence on radio since its release, and returned to the charts in 1994 after it was included on the soundtrack for the movie Reality Bites.

Fieger co-wrote 'My Sharona' with bandmate Berton Averre after being initially rebuffed by 17 year old Sharona Alperin in 1978.

Sharona subsequently capitulated, joining Fieger on tour following the song's release.
