Don't play it again, Sam...
Eccentric blog site the Donnybrook Writing Academy has published a list of tracks which it feels should never be played on radio ever again, a list which includes evergreen tunes from the likes of The Who, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Metallica.
Blog author Colonel Hector Bravado says: "Some of these songs we love. Some of them, if they were people, we’d burn to death in front of their families. But what do they have in common? All have succumbed to the putrefaction of overplay. None of them should be played anywhere for any reason."
Is there anything in the list that shouldn't be there? Or anything missing that ought to be? Let us know!

How about "Louie Louie" The Kingsmen, "Smoke on the Water" Deep Purple, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" U2, or the ever-popular "You Light Up My Life" Debbie Boone? "Safety Dance" Men Without Hats? "Close to You" The Carpenters? Anything by Gary Glitter.
There are so many bad songs, it's hard to choose. "The Purple People Eater" Sheb Wooley (although just on the merits of a really great name--I mean who names their kid Sheb any more? Such a shame--maybe we should keep playing it. REALLY LOUD. Rock on, Sheb.)
All sound suggestions Z...keep 'em coming, folks...
I'm surprised not to see "You aint seen nothin yet" by BTO, or anything by Michael Bolton! Strongly disagree about "Baba O'Riley" being on the list tho....
GH...again, solid suggestions...more, please!
Wouldn't have thought Baba O'Riley suffered from too much airplay either...
How about Africa by Toto?
"As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti" etc. etc.
Most of these songs aren't overplayed in Australia (clearly this is a U.S. list as I don't think Hootie and the Blowfish has had much play here since the 90s). Some of them are my favs and shouldn't be on the list.
Particularly:
'Blister in the Sun'
The Violent Femmes
'Creep'
Radiohead
'Fade Into You'
Mazzy Star
Fortunate Son'
Creedence Clearwater Revival
'I Want to Hold Your Hand'
The Beatles
Lisztomania'
Phoenix
At the moment it seems like every time I turn on commercial radio there is a Katy Perry, Lady Gaga or Ke$sha on so they are on the top of my current never want to hear again list
My friend Cory sez "Muskrat Love" Captain and Tenille or "Afternoon Delight" Starlight Vocal Band and esp. "D.O.A." by Blood Rock which, unfortunately, we tend to break into during a bender. Sorry, Cory. I'm really surprised more people didn't comment on this story. Cory and agree this was a great issue to discuss.
For the first time ever I was forced to leave Dig when Norman Greenbaum spirit in the sky was played tonight. Terrible song, totally deluded subject. Hopefully NEVER to be played again.
Keep 'em coming...this is great...!
Pleased to see "Your Body Is A Wonderland " made the list; but YMCA??? Really???? C'mon people, let he (or she) who has never done the YMCA dance cast the first stone.
Anything by Lady bloody Gaga...
Isn't this the triple-M playlist?
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood
find the inclusion of Baba O' Riley a bit offensive - its one of my personal anthems!
