Death of Stones' guitarist to be re-examined

Brian Jones
Aug 31, 2009 Updated Sep 1, 2009

The death of former Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones is to be reviewed following new evidence.

Police in Sussex, UK are reviewing the investigation after being handed new information connected to the guitarist's death 40 years ago.

Jones was found dead at the bottom of a private swimming pool at a house in Sussex in July 1969.  The police inquest at the time recorded a verdict of death by misadventure despite speculation that he was murdered.

A spokesperson for the police said it was too early to say whether a new investigation would be launched, but that new documents would be reviewed immediately.

Jones, who was 27 when he died, was a founding member of the Rolling Stones.
