Deadly deal

Ceramic singing nuns
Jul 30, 2010 Updated Aug 3, 2010

Benedictine nuns from a secluded convent in southern France have received death threats after winning a record deal.

The Avignon-based order beat 70 other religious groups from North America and Africa to secure the deal with Universal Music following a search for the finest female singers of Gregorian Chant.

The nuns, whose album is set to be released in November, posted a clip of their winning efforts online, but noticed on Tuesday that a number of death threats - written in English -  had been posted at the bottom of the clip. The comments have since been removed.

Members of the order, which was founded in the 6th century, are not allowed to leave the convent or receive guests, and can only communicate with visitors through a metal grille.
