Robert Plant as a milkman
Aug 31, 2010 Updated Sep 2, 2010

Robert Plant has revealed that his pre- Led Zep Music career got off to a shaky start and that he had to resort to theft to make ends meet.

Speaking of his time in blues outfit Band of Joy alongside drummer John Bonham, Plant says: “We were better at siphoning petrol out of parked cars than we were at pulling crowds".

“We were at the point of starvation and would get involved in thievery. We would nick bottles of milk off the doorsteps in Manchester at 5am.” (see artist's impression above)

Having called his new album Band Of Joy, in honour of his old bandmates, Robert says he is not all that different now.

“I feel as committed and as frivolous and in a way as carefree as I did when I had a rubber hose in the back of a Ford Prefect.”

Best keep one eye on your milk stocks...
