In the wake of the bewildering success of the US TV teen musical Glee, UK rockers Coldplay want a slice of the action.

The series, which features a high school choir murdering...sorry...covering famous tunes - with a bit of help from Autotune - was always a no-no for the band, claims the show's producer Ryan Murphy.

"At the beginning, a lot of people didn't know what we were(*)" he told The Hollywood Reporter. "Coldplay and Bryan Adams were really the only rejections...but Coldplay called a week ago and said, 'We're sorry, you can have our catalogue'."

Over to you, Bryan Adams...

This isn't entirely correct. Coldplay's fifth member, Phil Harvey, confirmed on May 1 (http://www.coldplay.com/newsdetail.php?id=623) that the band never refused Glee permission to use their songs. No one is really sure why this news came about, but it was also reported on Coldplay's unofficial fansite, Coldplaying.com.

Love the bit about Glee murdering - sorry, covering- famous songs though!

Thanks BG...we stand corrected...I guess it was fair to assume that the show's EP knew what he was talking about!
As to whether or not the band SHOULD have refused is a different matter ;)

I really, really wish Coldplay had said no.
Having said that it will be interesting to hear their
interpretations & visuals.
