Blame is the new praise
In a supposedly "leaked" email to colleagues at Island Records, vice president David Sharpe criticised the singer's album of hymns, Praise & Blame, saying it's not why the label chose to lure Jones from rival EMI in a deal worth around 2.7 million dollars.
"We did not invest a fortune in an established artist for him to deliver 12 tracks from the common book of prayer" Wrote Sharpe in the email, which although written on May 19th, only surfaced - alongside the album - this week.
Cynics have suggested that this makes the album look like some sort of rebellious gesture on the part of Jones rather than, say, just an album of ho-hum hymns by a 70-year-old bloke.
(In case you're wondering about the photo, it was originally made for another story featuring Sir Tom, but we really like it.)
