Coyne told Rolling Stone that the writing sessions for the Lips' 15th studio record took place while bandmate Steven Drozd was in the throes of a drug addiction. "He did this one piece of music and did lyrics” Said Coyne. “Back and forth between some horrible internal dialogue. It was truly devastating."
Coyne says Drozd is "better now than ever" but that his early dark work was kept and built upon for the upcoming album.
