Macca told Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd that even though it was he who announced The Beatles were breaking up in 1970, the decision to make the break permanent was not his own.
"Basically me, George and Ringo said, 'Does this have to be final? Could we do a couple of gigs or can we think about this tomorrow?' But John was off with Yoko and he was saying, 'No, no, it's great, I feel a release' and all that. So that was kind of final."
McCartney also said that he thought bandmate Ringo Starr deserved a knighthood in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours list "I do think it’s about time" He said.
