It's been 45 years in the making, but the Beach Boys album 'Smile' will finally be released this year.

Work began on the record back in 1966 but the various twists and turns in the band's history meant that it was never finished.

Although Brian Wilson recorded and released his own version of the record back in 2004 with his band the Wondermints, it's the original band version that fans have been hanging out for all these years; "it's the holy grail for Beach Boys fans", says founding member Al Jardine.

2011 marks the band's 50th anniversary, and Jardine also revealed plans for a full reunion - Brian included - kicking off with a 2012 Grammys performance followed by a world tour.
